Pumpkin Patch 2011

So, we finally made it to the Pumpkin Patch this last weekend.  I week later than normal, but it worked out ok.  I had wondered if we were going to have a soggy mess since it had rained most of the week.  I was happily surprised when we got there and it wasn't too muddy (just enough that the boots got dirty!)

So, our morning started out with a train ride out to the patch:

Grandma and Lane on the Train

Easton on the Train.

Then we had to explore all the pumpkins and pick out the ones we liked best.  This was the boys favorite part of the day ... walking around in the pumpkins.

Filling up the wheelbarrow.

Lane pushing the pumpkins.
The boys sitting on the hay bales.
There was also a hay maze for the boys to go through.  While they were in there Grandma snuck in through the exit and surprised them.

Grandma coming out after she surprised them.
We did face painting while we were there this year (something we forgot about last year).  Easton wanted a spider and Lane wanted a Bat on his forehead ... and they got what they wanted :)

Easton wanted to go see the animals so we did stop by and see the pigs, goats (momma with 2 babies), kitties, and rabbit.

Then it was time to ride the Caterpillar ride (Easton's first time).  The sit in the barrels and get pulled by a tractor through a corn field, pumpkins, and sunflowers.

Then the picture that we take at the end of every trip to the pumpkin patch ... here is 2011 Lakeview Farms Pumpkin Patch picture.

The boys had a great time and so did my mom and myself.  We finished the afternoon by having lunch at Sonic (Easton's first time) and doing a little shopping at Kohls and Joann's.

Egg Basket

So, I am going to start by saying that we have absolutely wonderful neighbors that watch our chickens when we are gone.  I was talking with Easton about having them watch our chickens the next time we go away and Easton comes back with, "but mom, Dave & Jen don't have a basket to collect the eggs" (they haven't watched them since they started laying!) and that led to my little egg basket for the neighbors.

So, its amazing what a bucket from the dollar bin at Target matched with vinyl cut out with the cricut can create ... and it only took a few minutes.

Tillamook County Fair 2011 (August 10th - 13th)

So, Easton and I took a mini-vacation to Papa Norman and Grandma Marlene's for Fair.  We spend 4 wonderful days taking in fair food, horse races, carnival rides, farm animals, pig-n-fords, reptiles, concerts, a demolition derby, and checking out the numerous exhibits.  Here are some of the highlights (from my phone ... since I forgot my camera at home):

So this was Easton's first fair food ... a hamburger.  Other food that he had during the four days:  Elephant Ears (his favorite), cotton candy, pronto pup, teriyaki meat w/noodles, popcorn, beer sausage, pizza, and of course ice cream)

Papa and Easton waiting for the Lonestar Concert on Wednesday night.

In the pig pen with Lorrie (Jerrad and Libby raised pigs for market)

Lorrie trying to get Easton to pet the pig ... he finally did but was very unsure!

Riding the Merry-Go-Round with Grandma Marlene (even though she is hidden by the Zebra - which was Easton's favorite!)

Checking out the farm equipment with Nate!
So ... there are some of the pictures from our trip ... I know we have some additional pictures on Grandma Marlene's camera ... I just have to get them!!!

Todays Discoveries

So ... this morning started off in an not so unusual way ... Easton throwing a fit about something ... I'm not even sure what it was as I am sitting here typing this.  Anyways, needless to say both of our moods were sour (and with Todd out of town it was looking like a very long day!).  However, I can say that in an instance both of our moods turned from grouchy to excited.

I went out to let the chickens out of the coop (normal morning activity) and I made our exciting discovery that we had 3 eggs in one of our nest boxes.  Yes this was our first, second, and third eggs from our wonderful chickens (I may have to take back all the awful things I have said about them in the past).  I will post pictures later of our cute little eggs.

So, as I come in from letting the chickens out and hold my discovery in my hand I come through the door and ask Easton "Guess what I have" and as I opened my hands, he screams "Eggs ... momma those are eggs ... are they from our chickens!!!"  It was priceless!!!

We had to call Papa Kenny and tell him about the eggs, then Grandma Marlene, then Grandma Fran called us ... who would have thought a few chicken eggs could bring so much JOY!

As I am writing this at 1:45 in the afternoon our count is up to 4 eggs (Easton made me go check before he went down for his nap!)

Update!!!

So, I know that I have been slacking on my blogs (all of them) ... I just can't seem to make myself sit down and type out what I'm doing (maybe I've just been to busy shopping for great deals!!!  Anyways my hopes are to get all of my blogs back up and running and to ACTUALLY post on them.  In case you forgot or need a reminder they are:

http://www.growingupsain.blogspot.com/ --- our life :)
http://www.sainsavings.blogspot.com/ --- my savings and shopping
http://www.goinginsain.blogspot.com/ --- crafts and recipes

I'm going to TRY!!!

Babies ... babies ... and more babies!

So, we are starting a new adventure with our lives.  We currently have 8 baby chicks that we are raising ... Easton absolutely loves them (they are pretty darn cute!).  We can't wait until they are laying eggs and we get to go collect them from the coop (if Todd finishes it ... which I'm sure he will do in the next 6 weeks or so).

We went with Rhode Island Reds since they are suppose to be somewhat people friendly, have brown eggs, and are supposedly decent layers.  They don't have names yet (kinda waiting to see if they all make it before we get to attached).  I'm sure there will be more pictures to follow of our growing family.

February Snow

So, this morning we work up to some snow (with more to come tonight and tomorrow - supposedly).  We all went outside and built a snowman.  Easton had a blast.

Playing in the snow.
